Deborah C. Stevens is a shareholder of Lewis King who practices in the area of tort and commercial litigation.  She has served as lead trial counsel and successfully defended  product liability claims and other catastrophic injury cases, including medical malpractice claims and trucking lawsuits.  Ms. Stevens represents several major automotive manufacturers and has served as their lead trial counsel for cases across the country.  In addition, Ms. Stevens has defended professional liability claims and has represented major insurance companies in the prosecution and defense of insurance coverage cases.

Ms. Stevens' experience in the commercial field includes the representation of the FDIC in professional liability cases, bankruptcy matters and receivership actions as a result of several bank closings in East Tennessee. She has also been involved in the prosecution and defense of multi-million dollar contract cases.

A member of both the bar in both Tennessee and Kentucky, Ms. Stevens is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.S. District Courts in Tennessee and Kentucky.  She has tried cases throughout the southeast including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi and South Carolina.  In 1996, she was named by the National Law Journal as one of the Top Ten Litigators in the country.  (NLJ, "Successful Strategies from Ten of the Nation's Top Litigators", May 13, 1996). 

Ms. Stevens currently serves as the President/Managing Shareholder for Lewis King.  She also serves as a member of the Pellissippi State Technical Community College Foundation Board, and is a former member of the Board of St. Mary's Hospital and Catholic Charities of East Tennessee (Board President 2000-2002).  She served as a hearing officer for the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility from 1990-1994 and was co-chair of the Knoxville Bar Association Committee on Women and Minorities in the Profession.  She has taught trial advocacy at the University of Tennessee College of Law.  Ms. Stevens is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute and the Tennessee and Knoxville Bar Associations.  She has presented numerous seminars to attorneys and clients on Trial Strategy and Product Liability Issues and she presents numerous seminars to members of the bar on the Avoidance of Malpractice Claims.

Ms. Stevens is a member of the 1993 Class of Tennessee Leadership and a Master of the Bench, Hamilton Burnett Inns of Court and a member of the Knoxville Bar Foundation.She is also a member of the 2006 Class of Leadership Knoxville.

In 1980, Ms. Stevens earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law where she was a member of the Law Review.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Virginia Tech in 1976.
