Bar Admission Practice Areas Janet Hayes is an advocate for employers and businesses across the state. As a Lewis King Shareholder, Ms. Hayes has defended employment-related claims including sexual harassment, retaliatory discharge, discrimination, workers’ compensation, and ERISA. She has represented employers across the state in proceedings before the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) and Tennessee Human Rights Commission (THRC) as well as state and federal trial courts, the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the Sixth Circuit of Appeals. Ms. Hayes actively assists employers in litigation avoidance by drafting employment contracts, conducting management training classes, and preparing business-specific employee handbooks. She is a frequent speaker for human resources organizations and serves on the ALFA International Employment Law Steering Committee. In addition to her employment law practice, Ms. Hayes handles complex litigation and class action claims with experience contesting class certification. Named one of Knoxville’s “40 Under 40” in 2008, Ms. Hayes is actively involved in the community. She serves on the Board of Directors for Mercy Health Partners and the Board of Trustees for Carson-Newman College. She also serves in several capacities for her church and civic organizations. Ms. Hayes graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law where she was selected for membership into the Order of the Coif, the most distinguished award available to law school graduates. She is an alumna of Carson-Newman College where she received her Bachelor of Arts. |
