Ed Owens is a shareholder in Lewis King and practices primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, bankruptcy, real estate litigation, business law, and municipal law. He has handled a broad range of commercial cases in state and federal courts. He also performs a wide variety of services outside of court, including negotiating and drafting agreements of all kinds and advising clients on starting, operating, buying, and selling businesses. His clients have included banks, title insurance companies, finance companies, retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, landlords, service companies, management companies, and many other businesses, as well as city governments, municipal agencies, and FDIC.

Mr. Owens has substantial experience representing secured and unsecured creditors in proceedings under all chapters of the Bankruptcy Code. He is also experienced in representing lenders and borrowers in loan transactions, preparing loan documentation and conforming lenders' documents to Tennessee law.

Representative Experience:

  • Counsel for the Public Building Authority of the City of Sevierville, Tennessee, which has constructed and is operating a multimillion-dollar convention center and golf course and is constructing extensive roadway improvements throughout the Sevierville area.

  • General representation of the City of Sevierville and its various departments in the whole range of matters that municipalities encounter.

  • Complex litigation, including significant dollar cases in the federal courts,

  • Representation of numerous clients in forming and operating business entities, including corporations, LLCs, limited partnerships, and general partnerships.

  • Real estate law, principally litigation on behalf of title insurance companies to resolve questions of title to real property.

  • Representation of a major regional bank in bankruptcy matters throughout East Tennessee.

  • Extensive experience in bankruptcy litigation, including but not limited to, adversary proceedings of all kinds, objections to claims, motions for relief from stay, and plan confirmation issues.
Mr. Owens was a National Merit Scholar at the University of Tennessee, where he received his B.A., M.A., and J.D. degrees. He is a member of the Knoxville, Nashville, Tennessee, and American Bar Associations and is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Tennessee, the United States Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is a former member of the Chancellor's Associates of the University of Tennessee and an emeritus member of the Board of Visitors of the University’s College of Arts and Sciences.
