RECRUITMENT

Summer Associate Program
Lewis King maintains a summer associate program that provides law students with a unique opportunity to experience life in our law firm.  The program provides a balance of social activities and real-world work assignments.  The program starts with a three-day orientation in which shareholders and associates share information on their clerking experiences, their courtroom experiences and general practice tips.  The summer associates also receive extensive training on computer systems and other resources available to them.  The purpose of our Summer Associate program is to make offers of employment to those who demonstrate exceptional legal skills and the ability to become productive members of the firm.  The number of summer associates that are hired is determined by expected hiring needs for future associates.

The Lewis King Summer Associate Program also includes:

  • The assignment of a shareholder mentor and a young associate mentor

  • A checklist of activities including: attendance at depositions, client meetings, court hearings, mediations, trials, internal practice group meetings and monthly associate training meetings

  • Formal and informal feedback

  • Regular social activities with associates and shareholders

"From my first year forward, I only clerked at Lewis King. But, more importantly, I never looked for another clerkship. Within one week of working here, I knew this is where I wanted to be."

– Chris McCarty, Class of 2006, University of Tennessee
