LEWIS KING ATTORNEY JOHN R. TARPLEY NAMED CHAIR
OF THE ABA TORT TRIAL & INSURANCE PRACTICE SECTION

Knoxville, Tennessee. August 5, 2009.  The Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop law firm is pleased to announce  that  attorney John R. Tarpley was named chair of the American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) at the ABA Annual meeting in Chicago.  Mr. Tarpley will serve a one-year term and his goals include a focus on ensuring that TIPS maintains its position as the profession’s leader on tort, trial and insurance-related issues and determining ways for past leaders to remain active in the section.

Tarpley has served the ABA as assembly clerk and speaker of the Young Lawyers Division and as editor of the division's Barrister magazine. In addition to serving as the chair-elect and vice-chair of the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, Tarpley has been a council member.

Tarpley is a former president of the Tennessee Bar Association and has served on the TBA’s executive committee for a number of years. As president of the TBA, he implemented the successful "Leadership Law" program and continues to be involved in its programming. He also established "Lawyers Care" and successfully recruited lawyers to do more pro bono work in the state. During his term, TBA membership reached all-time highs. Tarpley is also a fellow of the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Associations.

John Tarpley is the managing shareholder of the Lewis King Nashville office and practices in areas including tort, transportation, product liability, and a wide range of insurance related matters. He has successfully defended a number of trucking companies and their employees both at trial and in the mediation of claims.  Mr. Tarpley is certified as a general civil mediator by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
