LEWIS KING ATTORNEY JOHN TARPLEY ELECTED
VICE-CHAIR OF THE ABA TORT TRIAL & INSURANCE PRACTICE SECTION

Knoxville, Tennessee - Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop attorney John R. Tarpley was appointed Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) at the ABA Annual Meeting.  Tarpley will serve a one year term as vice-chair and will assume the position of section chair at the close of the 2009 ABA Annual Meeting.  “I am honored to be selected to lead TIPS beginning in August of 2009.  TIPS is the one organization that brings all viewpoints: industry, plaintiffs & defendants together to discuss those issues of concern to all lawyers in this practice field,” said Tarpley.  TIPS has more than 35,000 members.

Through the years, Tarpley has served the Bar Associations in various capacities.  He is the Past-President of the Tennessee Bar Association and has served on TBA’s executive committee for many years. As president of the TBA, he implemented the successful “Leadership Law” program and he continues to be involved in its programming. During his term, Tarpley also established “Lawyers Care” and successfully recruited lawyers to do more pro bono work in the state.

Tarpley is the managing shareholder of the Lewis King Nashville office and practices in areas including tort, transportation, product liability, and a wide range of insurance related matters. He has successfully defended a number of trucking companies and their employees both at trial and in the mediation of claims.  Mr. Tarpley is certified as a general civil mediator by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
